Flame-Free Sustainable Roof Refurb for Stockton School

Conyers School in Stockton-on-Tees has benefitted from an extensive roofing refurbishment using 3,000m2 IKO Mach One, which guarantees reliable waterproofing and protection for at least 20 years.

Project management consultancy Faithful+Gould asked IKO PLC to carry out a comprehensive survey for the academy, which included guidance on the overall project. The single layer, bituminous membrane IKO Mach One was recommended as a flame-free, sustainable and fast-fit system. The project also included an enhanced insulation scheme with new modular and structural mono-pitch roof lights.

The original survey identified various separate roof sections at the secondary school and sixth form that were in different states of disrepair. Five areas called for immediate replacement due to their poor condition; a further three were replaced shortly afterwards.

‘IKO has a good relationship with Faithful+Gould, having worked with the company on similar projects in the past, notably Cramlington Learning Village in Northumberland,’ explains Stephen Mooney, Area Business Manager for IKO Roofing Specification. ‘Many of Conyer School’s buildings had roofs which were in a very poor state, warranting immediate action. It was essential that the replacement roofs were reliable and would last as long as possible. The IKO Mach One membrane comes with a 20-year warranty providing the superior cover and protection the school requires.’

The installation was carried out by roofing contractor, John Flowers Ltd, over 14 weeks during the summer to coincide as much as possible with school holidays, reducing any potential disruption to staff and pupils.
