Kingspan believes that large scale system testing is one of the most reliable ways of assessing the performance of building elements in a fire situation. The company has subjected its products to rigorous testing for decades, and is proud to say that 2020 marks 25 years since Kingspan’s PIR core insulated panel systems first achieved certification from both FM Approvals and the LPCB.
Underpinned by globally recognised, large-scale system testing regimes, developed and approved by the insurance industry, this certification provides objective third-party testing and ongoing surveillance of fire performance of our insulated panel systems. Over the last 25 years, a range of independently investigated real building fires have stood testament to the in-use performance of Kingspan’s insurer approved PIR core panels and the relevance of these large-scale tests to actual building situations. The case studies can be viewed at: http://bit.ly/RealFireCaseStudies.
Now with the development of Kingspan QuadCore™ technology, the next generation of high performance closed cell insulated panel systems is pushing fire performance even further, achieving additional certification related to low smoke emissions and improved performance in fire resistance testing.
As part of its ongoing commitment to fire safety and product development, Kingspan has recently invested in a state-of-the-art global facility dedicated to fire engineering research. Offering a comprehensive resource of fire science equipment and expertise, its mission is to advance knowledge and understanding of how building materials, products and complete systems perform when subjected to fire. Based in North Wales, the centre will welcome research partnerships and collaboration from across industry and academia.
