Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council’s regeneration partner, Muse Developments, appointed Bowmer and Kirkland (B&K) to install an 11,000m2 roof-top parking deck at the combined Waitrose Supermarket and John Lewis at Home store in Basingstoke.
B&K turned to roofing specialist BriggsAmasco initially to develop the plans for the car park into a viable scheme and subsequently deliver the thermal insulation, lightweight concrete, and the IKO Permapark waterproofing and wearing courses on the roof deck parking area. A specially formulated mastic asphalt, IKO Permapark uses advanced polymer technology for long-term durability, improved temperature stability and ease of installation. Radflex expansion joints were also fitted to allow for the building’s natural movement.
The convenience of hot charge deliveries – via IKO’s purpose-built hot charge luggers – and IKO Permapark’s wide temperature window for installation meant BriggsAmasco was able to resurface the car park during the cold winter months, working alongside Radflex Contract Services. A 100m2 movable shelter was also used to allow the contractors to work almost unhindered through the worst of the weather. The development was completed on time to open successfully in time for seasonal trade.
