Semi-detached property, Richmond

27 Jan 2012
Case study

For the refurbishment of this semi-detached property in the London Borough of Richmond, Simon Merrony Architects wanted to create a carefully considered roof featuring Photovoltaic Panels to provide renewable energy to the home alongside a rooflight to fill the attic space below with natural light and ventilation. Aesthetics played a key part of the brief, so it was important for the architect to specify a rooflight that was elegant and also mirrored the fine lines of the chosen photovoltaic panels. The Rooflight Company worked in consultation with the architect to provide a solution to meet their needs.

A neo™ Solar measuring 1.7m wide x 1m high was specified to perfectly complement the design scheme. The rooflight was also fitted with a concealed motor to allow electric actuation, and to ensure that the minimal, frameless appearance was mirrored from the outside in.

“We chose the Rooflight Company for this project as we felt there was great potential to combine a frameless roof light with a solar PV panel in a modular form. It was rewarding to work with a like-minded forward thinking company and we believe we’ve jointly created a unique and aesthetically pleasing result.” - Simon Merrony Architects
