Combining stylish slim sightlines and enhanced thermal-efficiency, Senior Architectural Systems’ SF52 aluminium curtain walling has been used to create the attractive glazed façade of a landmark new data centre in the heart of London Docklands.
Designed by ARC-MC architects, The Point is a new three-storey bespoke built powered shell data centre located on the Isle of Dogs. The scheme’s striking building envelope features an attractive combination of different materials, with the sleek and slim line aluminium frame of Senior’s SF52 curtain walling perfectly complementing the granite cladding. Installed by Visual Concept Ltd for main contractor Metnor Construction, Senior’s high performance aluminium SD commercial doors have also been installed to the building’s main entrance to provide both a practical and aesthetically pleasing solution.
Supply chain collaboration was vital to the successful delivery of the scheme, with Visual Concept Ltd recommending the specification of Senior’s SF52 curtain walling over competitor systems in order to better meet the scheme’s stringent targets for U-values and energy-efficiency. The established quality of Senior’s aluminium fenestration systems, which are designed akimnd manufactured in the UK, was also an important factor.
The location of the data centre presented numerous challenges, with access to one of the elevations restricted by the River Thames and the others by the neighbouring buildings. To ensure that the build programme remained on schedule, each phase of work and the delivery of materials had to be carefully coordinated. Paul Price from Visual Concept Ltd explains: “We are extremely proud to have been involved in the creation of The Point and from inception to completion, it was a pleasure working alongside Metnor Construction and Senior Architectural Systems on such a landmark scheme.
We were keen to work with Senior on this contract and the level of service they provided was fantastic, with all the orders expertly inputted, painted and supplied on time throughout the whole phasing procedure. The additional technical and practical support that was made available, particularly from our regional technical sales manager Mark Durose who was our main point of contact throughout the build, was also very impressive. All in all, a great team effort and a project to be proud of!”
