Sotech Provides Energy Boost

Researchers and students at the University of Leeds will be continuing to produce world class research thanks to the new Energy Research Building, constructed using custom-built Optima IPC Pressed Plank Cladding from one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of rainscreen and bespoke architectural fabrications, Sotech.

 

Overseen by BAM Construction Ltd, the multi-million pound building, home to 170 researchers and students, features state of the art technology and facilities. Solar hot water generation and maximised use of daylight through intelligent control gear, which adjusts artificial light levels and reduces energy consumption, are just two examples.

 

Installed by Lakesmere, Sotech provided its Optima IPC Pressed Plank Cladding panels in a range of different widths with a bronze metallic finish. The panels are long lasting, low maintenance and fully recyclable, are designed to lead the way in sustainability.

 

Sotech was involved in the project from start to finish, ensuring the 3,400 m² construction benefitted from components which do not support combustion and meet the requirements laid out in BS476 part 7, Class O. These properties helped the building to achieve an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating.

 

Optima IPC has been engineered to faultlessly integrate with other building resources, also allowing for the incorporation of different colours and materials into the design. Sotech’s advanced manufacturing techniques also guarantee there is no build-up of metal thickness at the cruciform joint.
