The Riverside Museum, Scotland’s Museum of Transport and Travel in Glasgow has installed a combination of Promat passive fire protection products to provide a robust fire protection and means of escape.
“We worked closely with project architects Zaha Hadid and became involved with the design team at an early stage,” comments Promat’s Ewan Macleod “That allowed us to advise which of our products was most appropriate for each fire protection task, and also to provide ongoing technical advice and guidance as certain aspects of the design were altered during the project.”
Promat supplied 400m2 of Promat SUPALUX® for the project. Promat SUPALUX® is a lightweight and non-combustible building board that offers up to 4 hours fire resistance for a range of general-purpose building applications. Different sections of the building’s structural steelwork were protected by either Promat TD Board® - an inert mineral fibre board - or by the lightweight, non-combustible Promat VERMICULUX®, board, which is made from calcium silicate.
Promat also supplied 3,000m2 of Promat PROMATECT®-250 to add fire protection to the mezzanine floors. Promat’s extensive product protfolio, and its ability to provide ongoing technical advice, were among the reasons why its products were specified for this project.
The current European Museum of the Year has a unique design and now houses one of the UK’s most impressive collections of planes, trains and automobiles. It has become a landmark project in the Glasgow area and has recently welcomed its 3 millionth visitor.
