Wrekin Housing Trust developed Oakwood Extra Care to provide assisted living facilities for the elderly in Wellington and surrounding areas. The client provided McPhillips Ltd with the job of managing the build and groundworks. Tobermore helped make their job easier with the supply of hard landscaping materials in the form of Pedesta block paving, Textured Flags and a Secura retaining wall solution.
The care facility is located within an existing active community and consists of a three storey building that accommodates 63 flats and access to a lounge, dining room, restaurant, laundry room, garden, community centre, cafe, bar/pub for residents as well as shared guest facilities.
The garden was an important element for Wrekin Housing Trust in creating an attractive and welcoming outdoor space for residents and guests. Tobermore helped achieve this design vision with the supply of paving and walling products that created a colourful, safe and stylish outdoor living area.
A combination of Tobermore’s Pedesta block paving in the rich, blended colour of Brindle and Textured Flags in the soft colour of Buff was specified. Pedesta is a versatile product that is manufactured with a smooth, vibrant finish and a rectangular profile which allows the creation of distinctive laying patterns – demonstrated with the attractive basketweave laying pattern incorporated at Oakwood Extra Care. Textured Flags are manufactured with a unique, granular surface that creates a beautiful, natural look.
Due to the position of the project, a retaining wall solution was required and Tobermore answered the problem with Secura Grand - a mortar-free, dry building product that provides a fast and easy installation process. Although a highly functional product, aesthetics are not compromised with Secura Grand as it is manufactured with a unique, aged finish that adds charm and character to any space. Secura Grand in the soft, blended colour of Bracken was chosen to complement the environment.
Oakwood Extra Care was completed in 2016 with excellent results and the facility is now available for the elderly in the community.
