Sage Electrochromics

SageGlass glazing is changing the way people think about glass in buildings. It is electronically tintable; switching from a clear state to a deeply tinted state by the push of a button or a command from a building’s energy management system. Now you can enjoy the sun’s benefits while rejecting its undesirable effects such as fading, glare, and excessive heat — all without losing the view and connection to the outdoors. SAGE’s products are also “first cost” competitive when compared to the traditional methods of controlling sunlight: Low-E glass, additional HVAC equipment, and sun control products such as brise soleil, louvres, mechanized shades or blinds.

VARIABLE LIGHT AND SOLAR HEAT TRANSMISSION - dramatically reducing energy use. Having SageGlass® electronically tintable glass in your window is like having multiple types of glass in one. By matching the light and heat transmission of the glass to the exterior environment or occupant needs, building envelopes with dynamic glass can achieve unmatched energy efficiency and occupant comfort, and contribute to achieving net zero energy performance.

The SageGlass® product has an unparalleled range in solar heat gain coefficient (g-value), extending from 0.48 in the clear state (62% visible light transmission) to 0.09 in the tinted state (3.5% visible light transmission). When there is direct sun you can tint the glass to block the solar heat and glare and when it’s cloudy outside and you want light or it’s winter and you want to capture heat from the sun—you can untint the glass, saving both lighting and cooling energy.

Independent estimates show that electronically tintable window systems are capable of providing up to: • 40% savings on energy bills • 20% savings on operating costs • 24% reduction in peak demand • 25% decrease in the size of HVAC systems

BLOCKS GLARE WITHOUT LOSS OF VIEW - creating more comfortable environments. SageGlass windows and skylights can be tinted to allow in as little as 3.5% visible light to effectively block the sun’s glare. That translates to comfort. You can see your computer display or TV screen without closing the blinds and losing your connection to the outdoors. If you have a great view, but you have to have your blinds closed most of the time, it almost negates the reason for having the window there in the first place.
