We invite you to join the Bartlett's Design Computation Lab in their new installation ALIS (Automated Living System), at the Building Centre.
The evening includes a presentation of their recent book Robotic Building: Architecture in the Age of Automation (DETAIL Edition, 2019) and an explanation of their new housing system ALIS. Both the book and ALIS aim to position and question the role of technology, and specifically robotics, in creating more equitable and democratic architecture and spaces.
An informal discussion will follow between the DCL team and their friends from across the architecture disciplines including:
– Gonzalo Herrero, curator at The Royal Academy
– Julian Siravo, urban researcher at think tank Autonomy Institute
– Manijeh Verghese, co-curator of the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2020, head of the AA Public Programme and director of Unscene Architecture
ALIS is the work of The Bartlett School of Architecture’s Design Computation Lab (DCL), which focuses on the development of automated architectural design and production technologies for the built environment. DCL’s work comments on a wide ranges of prescient issues from the global housing crisis, to the future of work and limitations of material resources, proposing that automation can bring about positive change for the future.
DCL is run by Mollie Claypool, Manuel Jimenez Garcia, Gilles Retsin and Vicente Soler.
