Wood Work is the Building Centre's online lunch-time talks series featuring international designers and their wood inspired projects, supported by the Timber Trade Federation and Wood for Good.
The second project of the series is GotlandsHem's new low carbon and low impact HQ in Sweden. The project will be presented by Kirsten Haggart, senior associate at Waugh Thistleton Architects and lead project architect.
About GotlandsHem HQ
An international collaboration between Waugh Thistleton Architects, In Praise of Shadows, and Land Arkitektur has won a 2020 competition to design the new head office for GotlandsHem – the national housing association of the Swedish island of Gotland. The HQ will be a multifunctional place that provides a peaceful hub accessible not only to businesses but the whole community. The building is designed as a prefabricated systemised framework of cross-laminated panels and glulam beams.
About Kirsten Haggart
With over 20 years of design experience working across sectors, Kirsten’s strength lies in designing site sensitive developments through the management of stakeholders and engagement with collaborators, successfully navigating public consultation and statutory authorities to pilot proposals through the planning process. Throughout her career Kirsten has developed projects and concepts that push boundaries and change mindsets. From the pioneering Murray Grove, which altered the global perception of how CLT should be used, to MultiPly, a carbon neutral timber pavilion for the V&A Museum which demonstrates how engineered timber structures can contribute to the circular economy, her work challenges the status quo. Most recently Kirsten has developed the visionary concept of Trenezia a zero carbon community of 1,600 homes and a cultural hub built over the lake in Bergen.
The Wood Work event series is generously supported by Wood For Good. It is part of the Conversations about Climate Change programme, in association with the Timber Trade Federation.
