Metalynx2, Wieland Electric’s popular modular wiring system has been used as part of the refurbishment of Sea Containers House, which situated on the South Bank of the River Thames in London. Named after a global shipping conglomerate that occupied the building for several decades.
In January 2012 a major refurbishment commenced and has seen the building re-open to house a luxury 359 bedroomed hotel and 350,000ft2 of office accommodation.
Wieland’s Metalynx2 system was specified and installed by mechanical and electrical contractors PhoenixME Limited, who replaced the original lighting conduit and cabling system with a modular design scheme. PhoenixME chose Wieland’s system specifically for the project as the Metalynx2 system comes pre-wired and pre-tested, so it arrives on-site allows for quick and efficient installation. This fast installation time allowed PhoenixME to meet the tight deadlines on the project.
With structured wiring now firmly established as the standard for fast-track projects, Metalynx2 represents a new, smarter generation, helping to deliver even greater savings on costs and installation time. As such, it is ideal for power distribution, lighting control (including DALI and KNX) and fan coil units and offers infinite design flexibility. This 6-pole circular structured wiring system also features a patented coding system for different applications and round connectors to minimise space requirements and facilitate installation through firewalls. Furthermore, once Metalynx2 has been installed its inherent flexibility means that any changes to the system can be accommodated quickly with minimum downtime.
Andy Lessiter of PhoenixME Limited commented “We are very familiar with the Metalynx2 system and use this on many of our projects as this product is so very easy to install and takes the pressure off our tight installation deadlines. Wieland ensured that the product was delivered to site exactly when required and were also on hand to offer full on-site project management and technical support throughout the installation”.
