Wieland makes a powerful connection at One Puddle Dock

12 Oct 2016
Case study

Wieland Electric has supplied its popular Metalynx2 structured wiring system as part of the £20 million refurbishment contract of One Puddle Dock, a six storey commercial premises in the City of London.

The refurbishment includes the removal of existing services, partitions and floor coverings of the 100,000 sq. ft. floor space and refurbing to Cat A standard for the sub-let space.  Other office areas will be fitted out to Cat B standard which includes new M&E installations, installation of 8 new lifts, raised access flooring and new toilet cores on each level.

Fit out specialists Willmott Dixon Interiors were responsible for refurbishing the facility with M& E specialists Gratte Brothers installing Wieland’s Metalynx2 wiring system for the distribution of all power and lighting supply throughout the building.   A variety of Wieland’s extenders, tees and fused spurs were also incorporated into the power supply system.

The fast track nature of this project meant that Gratte required a well-trusted, reliable power supply scheme and Wieland’s Metalynx2 fitted the specification perfectly.  “With the project working to extremely tight deadlines, Wieland were very cooperative when it came to packaging and delivery.  We made a fairly specific request that the Metalynx2 system we were using for low level supplies be delivered clearly labelled and boxed per circuit per distribution board” commented Site Manager Peter Harrison.  “Wieland supplied this exactly to our requirements so that our electricians could go straight to the stored boxes of cables and all the associated parts were enclosed within that particular box.  This allowed us to make the best use of our time on site and maximise productivity” he added.

The Metalynx2 system allows for total flexibility and comprises of modular sub circuit distribution which is pre-fabricated off-site.  The system arrives colour coded and polarised so that one system shall not plug into the components of any other system allowing for easy installation.   Metalynx2 also provides a complete installation from the respective distribution board to the further point of the circuit.  The system and all its components meets all relevant British and European safety standards.
