Timber is one of the oldest building materials in the world and, if sustainably grown, is an endlessly renewable and natural resource. It offers those who design, make and build with it countless benefits including material flexibility and innovation. For those who live, work or play in a timber building it brings greater health and wellbeing. However as a material, it can still be misunderstood.
The ‘Re-imagining Timber’ symposium will explore pioneering research and development into the manufacture and use of timber; view the latest innovations in the design of timber structures through award-winning project case studies and discuss ‘what next for timber architecture?’
The symposium will be an informative afternoon with inspirational talks from renowned makers, academics and architects including;
– Amin Taha, Groupwork
– Alison Brooks, Alison Brooks Architects
– Alex de Rijke, dRMM
– David Venables, American Hardwood Export Council
– Professor Pekka Heikkinen, Wood Program Aalto University
– Johannes Rebhahn, Wiehag
Registration will open at 1.30pm for a 2.00pm start. The talks will conclude at 6.30pm with a networking drinks reception and a tour of the Forest of Fabrication exhibition by co-curator Alex de Rijke.
